Ever look at your street and think, “This spot could use some leafy flair”? Good news — the City of Des Moines will plant a tree for you (yes, really). As part of the Street Tree program, you can request a tree to be planted in the public right of way adjacent to your property.
Street trees add shade, clean the air, boost curb appeal, and even make squirrels happy. All you need to do is fill out a quick Street Tree Request Form, and the city will check your curbside to see if it’s tree-ready. If approved, the city will schedule the planting, typically during the spring and fall.
The picture above is of the Sycamore trees lining Thompson Ave in Des Moines, one of my favorite drives and most striking canopies in the city.
